Project: The weather

Lesson Plan:  Students gave us the weather forecast.

Students worked on a document in the class manual (document 1, page 104) and answered the questions.
After correcting this work in class we discussed other natural hazards such as earthquakes and tsunamis which led on to the second document on the same page.


Homework:  Read the newpaper article from The Times about the earthquake and tsunami that hit Indonesia in 2004.  Then answer the questions.

Class:  2nd 3                Date: 17.09.09           Lesson: 3

Project: Extreme weather hazards - the hurricane.

Lesson Plan:  We began the evaluations for the first term; three pairs of students gave us the weather forecast.

We corrected the homework in class; documents 1, 2 & 3, pp. 106-107 of the class manual, which were about extreme weather hazards and natural disasters.  We concentrated on the hurricane.  I asked students if anyone had experienced a hurricane or tornado and then I handed out a reading comprehension text to students with a number of questions.  Students worked individually on the text and then we corrected orally. 

Next lesson we will work on a case study of hurricane Gilbert.  Students were given some key vocabulary on the board that they need to be familiar with in order to follow the video clip.

Homework:  .Learn the vocabulary for next lesson.  Students were also given a photocopy with activities to do on the BBC bitesize website for geography.

Class:  2nd 3                Date: 10.09.09           Lesson: 2

Project:  The Weather.

Lesson Plan: We watched a weather forecast on the BBC.  Students had some key words beforehand and then they had to fill in missing words/expressions on a worksheet.  They watched the clip three times before we corrected the worksheet.

Students then played a roleplay in pairs.  Students had to plan a weekend camping in the British Isles but each student only had the weather forecast for one day.  They had to exchange information orally, decide where to go and explain why to the class. 

Information: We then fixed the dates for the students to give the weather forecast in pairs in class. 
I am absent the 8th, 15th and 22nd of October.


Homework:  Read and answer the questions for documents 1, 2 and 3, pp. 106-7.
